Education

In the coming months this part of the Colony Farm Bike Tours & Rentals site is intended to become an educational window into Colony Farm's history and its eco-system. You will find educational resources and information on the Kwikwetlam First Nations Band, current restoration projects, environmental studies, wildlife that inhabits the area, school projects and workbooks.

The education site of colonyfarmbiketours.com can be accessed directly by this URL:

Students Field Trips: Field Trips will use our curriculum, which is posted on our website. Field Trips are designed for groups of 30 students and up. Based out of our Cycling Education Centre, between 10am and 2pm, guided Field Trips will explore the area based on the group's curriculum needs, which would be grade specific. Students would then attend a workshop within the Education Centre that will help them process what they have experienced on their ride. For smaller groups, or for those with specific tour needs, please contact our office.

Field Trip check list:

  1. Make your students and volunteers dress warm with a waterproof jacket and pants if they have them. We supply ponchos and hats as well as helmets. Warm gloves with an extra set are good idea. Layers work best cause you can always take off a sweatshirt and put it in your pack.
  2. Bring lots of snacks and drinks cause riding and hiking burn energy and they will need to hydrate over the morning or afternoon. We sell water to students at half price, $1.00 a bottle. PowerAde and other drinks regular pricing.
  3. Running shoes are best for the ride or hike but they should bring a dry pair to wear after the hike or walk to avoid getting cold feet.
  4. Backpacks are better than shoulder bags for riding. In them you can store dry cloths and shoes so they can change after the ride to make the rest of the learning experience more comfortable.
  5. Make sure you have the crafts and supplies packed up before the trip and then don’t forget to bring them.
  6. When you're done and back, write up your experience and email it back to us so that we can post your project on our website.
